England cricketer Harry Brook has decided to pull out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, choosing to focus on his national team commitments.
Brook was set to play for Delhi Capitals, who bought him for INR 6.25 crore in the mega auction held in November 2024. However, this is the second consecutive year he has withdrawn from the IPL, which might lead to a ban from the tournament.
Possible IPL Ban for Brook – UC Cricket Update
The IPL recently introduced a rule stating that any player who pulls out after being picked in the auction (without an injury or medical reason) will be banned from the tournament and future auctions for two seasons. Since Brook is withdrawing for personal and professional reasons rather than medical issues, he could face this ban.
Brook’s Statement
Brook shared his reasons for withdrawing in a social media post. He explained that it is an important time for England cricket and that he needs to prepare for upcoming matches.
"In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date. I know not everyone will understand, but I have to do what I believe is right. Playing for my country remains my priority and focus."

Brook has played only one IPL season, in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Last year, he pulled out of Delhi Capitals' 2024 campaign due to a personal loss.
With his latest withdrawal, it remains to be seen if Brook will be allowed to participate in future IPL seasons. However, for now, his focus is solely on representing England at the highest level.
